The Health Officer of the Margibi County Health Team (MCHT) has confirmed to the Liberia Public Radio that the County has recorded 38 Coronavirus cases since the outbreak of the disease.
Making the disclosure on Tuesday June 23, 2020 in Kakata, Dr. Myers Pajibo said the 38 cases include cases that were confirmed in Monrovia after patients from the County went through the COVID-19 test.
He further narrated that some of the cases include blood samples that were collected from patients at other health facilities in the County and sent to the national reference laboratory for testing.
“So we have cases that we collected blood sample from here in Margibi, in any one of the Districts and then we sent those samples to the national reference lab so they include all other samples that health facility workers collect here” he said.
Dr. Pajibo in his statement indicated that out of the 38 cases, two of the cases are from the Kakata Health District, five from the Manbahn Kaba Health District with the remaining 31 cases emerging from the Firestone Health District.
He told reporters that the two cases from Kakata were tested at the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex where the public goes for voluntary testing and the results were sent back to the county.
The Margibi County Health Officer explained that the team is trying to verify the name of one of the COVID-19 patients in Kakata because she gave only one name that she cannot be identified by in the community she claimed to be a resident of.
Dr. Pajibo indicated that the team went to the community in only to be told that there is no one that bears said name living in the area thereby making it a difficult situation.
He has therefore termed as scaring the sharp increase in the number of Coronavirus cases to more than six hundred in recent times in Liberia.
With this, he said they are trying to intensify the awareness in the communities by having meeting with community stakeholders and carrying out media engagement.
He disclosed plan of conducting closed to a weeklong training for media practitioners in the county because according to him, that has been a challenge for information dissemination.
Dr. Pajibo on the other hand said they are working out modality in insuring that the isolation unit at the C.H. Rennie Hospital manages some of the cases in Kakata on grounds that the 14th Military Hospital is already overcrowded.
He urged the public to follow the various measures instituted by the Government of Liberia to curtail the further spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Liberia has recorded more than 600 cases of the daily COVID-19 since it was first reported in March 2020.
Among the 15 counties, Montserrado has recorded the highest with more than 200 cases confirmed.
