The New Life Recovery Center (NLRC) has launched the Esther F. Grant Computer Training Program over the weekend for disadvantage youth going through rehabilitation program from drug addiction in Sundaygar Town on Marshall Road in Margibi County.
Speaking at the launching program, Former Commissioner of the Independent National Human Rights Commission (INHRC) Cllr. Sundayway E. Amegashie has challenged disadvantage youth to take advantage of the opportunity provided to enhance their skills in computer training.
Cllr. Amegashie stated that the transformation of Liberian youth from drug addiction should not be take for granted, but it is behold every Liberian and organization including government entity to ensure youth on drug addiction be rehabilitated in the country.
She stressed that the rehabilitation of disadvantage youth from drug addiction across the nation will prevent serious national security threat poses by several young people on drug addiction around Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Director of NLRC Jefferson Knight said government entities and President George Manneh Weah should support programs intended to rehabilitate disadvantage youth from drug addiction in the country.
Director Knight indicated that recent survey conducted revealed that 156,000 people have been addicted to drugs which poses a great danger for the growth and development of Liberia, noting that the number of youth on drug is alarming.
He pinpointed that the need to strengthen the drug law of Liberia to prevent narcotic substances from entering country by drug dealers which destroying the potential and future of Liberian youth.
According to him, the NLRC is a residential addiction recovery program located in Sundaygar Town which was founded in 2012 under the patronage of the United Methodist Church.
Director Knight added that the NLRC outreach activities to vulnerable communities, churches, identified ghetto areas and other places where known drug users gather and live.
He said the recovery program which last for 12 months include different activities such as Bible study, Psycho-social counseling, vocational training skills, anger management courses, celebrate recovery courses, staff training, alpha course and alcoholics anonymous.
He explained that since the established of the center, 121 persons have celebrated their sobriety and they have been reintegrated into the society.
Director Knight emphasized that the center has a current capacity of 35 persons and anticipating to build a female facility to help also recovery female drug addicted persons.
For her part, Madam Esther F. Grant who the NLRC’S Computer Training Program has been name in her honored encouraged the disadvantage youths to remain focus in transforming their situation at the center.
Madam Grant noted that they have the potentials and talents to become responsible citizens for their family and nation as a whole.
She urged Liberians and local or international organizations should support the center to help rehabilitate more Liberian youth who have been addicted to drug abuse across the nation..
