Lofa County one of Liberia’s 15 subdivisions, located in Northern Liberia is facing serious deplorable road conditions in that part of the Country.

The Minister of Public Works,  Mobutu Vlah Nyeapan has consistently disclosed to the Press that the Coalition for Democratic Change Government is very committed in rehabilitating major roads during this rainy season.

Liberia Public Radio investigation has proven, that the citizens of Lofa County are going through some economic crisis due to deplorable road conditions; Konia- Voinjama is a very terrible with portholes that are impeding  the smooth operation of moving  vehicles.

Currently transportation fare is escalating from $ 2500,00LRD (US$14.00)  to LRD$5,000.00  (US$25.00) from Monrovia to Voinjama City, this has also led to the hike  in prices of basic commodities in the  County.

Lofa County some decades ago, was referred to as the ‘breadbasket’ for Liberia with the mass production of food in the country by innovative and industrial hardworking people residing in the County.

During the 2017 Presidential and Representatives Elections in Liberia the former Vice President of Liberia and a respectable son of Lofa Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai was heavily criticized by many political pundits due to his inability to convince the Unity Party regime to pave the Lofa County road, which is the major priority to the citizens of Lofa.

Despite his failure to attract development to Lofa County in his capacity as second in command , Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai was still voted overwhelmingly by the citizens of Lofa capturing 91, 324 Votes amounting to 78.5 percent, followed by Ambassador George M. Weah of the Coalition of Democratic Change with 8,194 Votes amounting to just  7% .

Citizens cry for better road

Several Citizens of Lofa County are calling on the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) regime to take advantage of vote rich Lofa County by simply paving the road from Gbarnga to Konia, which will subsequently attract Lofa support to President George M. Weah re-election bid comes 2023.

Ambassador George Weah who regarded himself as a ‘road medicine’ (Road doctor) is being embarrassed with many bad road conditions across the country especially rural Liberia.

The governing CDC recently selected senator George Tengbeh as its candidate for the pending December 8, 2020 mid-term election in a bid to capture Lofa.

But LPR correspondent in the county says it is unlikely that Senator Tengbeh will capture votes of Lofians for the ruling party based on the deplorable road conditions and his crossover to the CDC.
