Zekepa, Lower Nimba_A local faith based empowerment and nongovernmental organization, the Rev. Samuel B. Gbarwee Leadership Empowerment Team(SAMBLET LIBERIA) has raised LRD$50,000.00 and a little over USD$150.00 to help send at least 40 underprivileged kids in lower in District#9 Nimba county.
Many parents in rural parts of the district especially in Zekepa are not financially potent to send their kids to school but according to SAMBLET the amount raised will help keep the kids in school.
Speaking at the fundraising program in the town of Zekepa over the weekend, SAMBLET Chief financial officer Solomon Gbarwee said having observed that parents in this rural part of the country cannot afford the little fees charge to send their children to school, the organization decided to step in by raising fund to pay for at least forty of the children fees.
He said although the amount is not enough to extend to other communities but it will greatly help fill in the gap of financial burden on parents in Zekepa town and surrounding areas.
“We want to send at least 40 girls to school here, your support is needed so we can do that”, Mr. Gbarwee told the gathering in Zekepa.
With a population of over 30,000 inhabitants, District #9 Nimba County remains underdeveloped ranging from bad road to poor infrastructure.
Samuel B. Gbarwee Leadership Empowerment Team (SAMBLET) since its formation in 2018 has been empowering local pastors in Bong, Montserrado and Nimba counties as well as providing assistance to children in these counties through education and healthcare.
SAMBLET has also been involved in assisting local clinics in Nimba mainly in District#9 where it has provided food and other items.
Matching band to Zekeh Memorial
Meanwhile SAMBLET Liberia has presented a brand new matching band to the Zekeh Memorial high school in Nimba county.
Presenting the band SAMBLET Executive Amb. Edmund C. Gbarwee said the band set was an effort of its donor in the United States of America some of who are Alumni of the Zekeh Memorial school who taught to give back to their former alma matter.
The matching band which is in memory of the late Anita Sonkarlay, a former student of the school who died in 1990 according to Mr. Gbarwee is the first of its kids in District#9.
He urged the administration of the Zekeh Memorial High school to use the item for its intended purpose for the benefit of all students of Yarwin Mehnsonnoh District.
Receiving the band set from SAMBLET, Yarwin Mehnsonnoh District Education Officer (DEO) Phillip Wuozenneh and the principal of Zekeh Memorial Moses S. Norbian thanked the organization for its gesture terming it as a blessing to the entire district school system.
The two educators told the gathering that the material is the first of its kind to be given to any school in their district and will serve as motivation for the student’s populace.
The occasion was climaxed with a honoring and football matches among youths of and elders of Yarwin Mehnsonnoh District and brought together several other prominent indivuals including wife of District#9 Representative Madam Gifty Gwaikolo, chiefs business owners, youths as well as the student community.
