As construction works resumed on the Gbarnga-Salayea road, Acting Public Works Minister, Ruth Coker Collins, has pledged the government commitment through President George Weah to complete the pavement of the road.

Minister Collins assured that no project that will be initiated by the Weah led government will be abandoned.

Her statement is in reaction to misconception by some citizens of Bong and Lofa Counties that the government was attempting to abandon the Gbarnga-Salayea road project by removing equipment intended to construct the road.

But, speaking Friday, January 29,2020, when she led a team of technicians on a toured of the Gbarnga-Salayea road project site , Minister Collins said the movement of equipment from one camp site to the another  does not in any way amount to abandonment of the project.

The hard working Acting Public Works Minister said the contractors has resumed construction works on the road and they will not rest until the project is completed.

Gbarnga-Salayea road project is being implemented by CHICHO, one of the leading Chinese construction Companies that had built several roads in Liberia including the Cotton Tree-Buchanan high way.

Minister Collins also toured the 67 km Ganta-Yekepa  road Corridor  where the completion rate is approximately 30km.

An estimated  20km of asphalt have been paved, as structural works are being done on critical sections of the road.

The Ganta-Yekepa road project is co-funded by the Government of Liberia and the World bigest Steel Giant, Arcellor Mittal.

Meanwhile, the Acting Public Works Minister has emphasized the importance to open the Ministry’s sub-stations to enhance road works in every part of the Country.

Minister Collins said the reopening of the Public Works Ministry’s  Sub-Stations in the Countries is crucial to the realization of the government of Liberia Pro-Poor agenda.

She noted that this will ensure the sustainability of the government broad based road connectivity program for the Country and keep employees busy in maintaining various roads across the Country.
