Liberia: Agriculture ministry to hold first ever agriculture fair

Liberia’s Agriculture Minister Jeannie Cooper has disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to hold a national agricultural fair in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Minister Cooper stated that the ministry has been mandated by law to host an annual  fair  which is intended to showcase and promote the agricultural sector in Liberia.

Madam Cooper was speaking Monday February 1, 2021 at a Press Conference held at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town outside Monrovia.

According to her, President George Weah declaration “Liberians will no longer be spectators in our own country” and ” grow what you eat and eat what you grow”, the fair will set the tone and mood on the country national quest to give the masses the opportunity to improve their lives and start them on the road of prosperity and development as outlined in the Pro Poor Agenda.

Minister Cooper stressed that the national agriculture fair will be embraced by the Liberian Leader and also actors in the sector at all levels.

She pinpointed that the fair will present a never before seen opportunity for the poorest farmers to the highest farmer to engage directly at the highest level of agriculture sector governance.

The national agricultural fair, madam Cooper said will bring the largest gathering of actors in the sector in Liberia’s history which include farmer in Agribusiness, entrepreneurs and enterprises, innovators agricultural students, development partners, financial institutions, agriculture sector associations among others.

Minister Cóoper emphasized that the three-day event will provide a space for dialogue about the sector, especially highlighting agricultural education and training, showcasing of sector investments and interventions, for farmers to show case their produce.

The fair which is the first of its kinds in Liberia will run from February 12-14, 2021
