Liberia Celebrates World Wildlife Day on March 3

The government of Liberia, through the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) will Wednesday join other Countries around the World in observance of World wildlife Day in Liberia.

The celebration is part of efforts by conservation actors to raise increase awareness on the protection of wildlife and halt hunting, commercialization and consumption of the animals.

 The program is jointly organized by the FDA, Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF), Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue Protection (LCRP), Humane Society International (HSI), Fauna &Flora International (FFI) and Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary and the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL).    

According to a release, the occasion which will be held at the historic Providence Island in Monrovia will be graced by a number of key diplomatic missions accredited near the capital and an array of government officials.

Meanwhile, the celebration of this year’s World wildlife Day demonstrates the commitment and preparedness in promoting wildlife conservation in Liberia.

On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in its resolution UN 68/205, proclaimed 3 March, the international day of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on the planet raise awareness and benefits fauna and flora in 1973, as World Wildlife Day, which was proposed by Thailand, to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.
