The Environmental Media Group, Journalists for the Protection of Nature(JPN-Liberia) wants President George Weah use this leg of his County tour in Western Liberia to re-echoed the significance of Protecting and conserving the Gola Forest National Park.
JPN-Liberia urged the Liberian leader to order those doing mining and hunting in the National Park to halt their activities to allow the Forestry Development Authority and Partners properly manage the park for the general benefit of the Country.
JPN-Liberia noted that any statement made by President Weah about the Gola Forest National Park on his tour in Western Liberia will be a straight policy pronouncement which will be respected by all Liberians especially citizens of Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount Counties.
The Environmental Media Group plead to the Liberian Leader is due to constant mining, hunting and pit-sawing into the National Park, thereby risking the biodiversity of the Park.
In a release quotes JPN-Liberia Executive Director Joseph O. Sayon as arguing that Liberia’s protected areas are said to be under severe threats which require the direct political will by the President.
JPN-Liberia is admonishing President Weah to encourage Chiefs,Elders, local and traditional leaders to serve as conservation ambassadors by closely monitoring the parameter of the Gola Forest National Park to avoid desecration of the Park by unscrupulous individuals who are seeking their personal interest over the interest of the Country.
The Environmental Media group emphasized that millions of United States Dollars have been invested in the creation and management of the GFNP and as such there is a need to protect it.
Meanwhile, JPN-Liberia has welcomed President Weah’s engagements with rural Liberians in understanding their plights for possible intervention by his government.
