FDA said it remains committed in protecting the Country’s wildlife population in the face of the current mystery being reported in Nimba County.

The Forestry Development Authority (FDA) says it has dispatched an investigative team to the community where the four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Chimpanzee in Saclepea District, Nimba County.

The team comprises staff of FDA on the ground and officers of the Liberian National Police Women and Children Protection Unit.

FDA said the team is charged with the responsibility to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter and establish the possibility of a chimpanzee having sex with human being.

A release from the FDA has expressed dismay over such account and dismissed reports that FDA staff has authorized the killing of the Chimpanzee.

FDA noted that such action against the Chimpanzee in question will raise serious threats to the survival of the remaining chimpanzee population in Liberia and put the country in disrepute with the implementation of multilateral agreements signed by the Country.

FDA said it remains committed in protecting the Country’s wildlife population in the face of the current mystery being reported in Nimba County.

It can be recalled that last week inTorkopa Town located in Leesonon Nimba County, a chimpanzee has allegedly attacked a 48 months girl child and raped her.
The child was later referred to Saclepea Comprehensive Health Center  for medical treatment.
