Former Lofa county superintendent Galakpai Worzi Kortimai has returned to the former ruling Unity Party seven years after he left to join the Congress for Democratic Change now a constituent member of Liberia ruling Coalition for Democratic Change.
Kotimai told a press conference at the UP headquarters in Zoror, Lofa County Thursday August 12, 2021, that after failing in his quest to market his political vision outside of the Unity Party, it was just prudent enough to make a return home.
Kortimai, a former Deputy Director General for Administration at the General Services Agency (GSA) said after searching for a safe political home over the years since his resignation from the CDC he has again along with supporters consider Unity Party as the best alternative to foster is political life.
He called on his supporters Kortimai across Lofa County to join him in reuniting with the former governing party and the CPP in order to obtain the needed votes in 2023.
Responding to questions about his future political ambition, the born again UP partisan said the Collaborating Political Parties will decide if there will be a need for his contestation in the 2023 general elections.
Former Lofa Superintendent Kortimai classified partisans of the Unity Party who are crossing over to the ruling CDC as people seeking and protecting their jobs.
Kortimia’s returned just weeks after Unity Party Lofa Campaign chairman in the 2017 Zubah Agrrey resigned from the UP and he is reportedly on his way to the governing CDC.
Meanwhile the one time Lofa senatorial candidate has descended on the Supreme Court of Liberia describing the full bench as a mess and people who are bent on seeking personal interest while dispensing justice.
Kortimai who strongly campaigned for embattle Lofa County Senator-Elect Brownie Samukai mentioned that the case involving the former defense Minister cannot be witnessed in any serious country in the world.
Who is Kortimai
Koritmai hails from Yeala, a Town bordering neighboring Guinea in Zorzor District and was Superintendent of Lofa during the first term of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Following reported difficult relationship with some members of the County caucus, he was replaced by former President Sirleaf with George Dunor.
Given the strong relationship between him madam Sirleaf, he was appointed Deputy Director General for Administration at the General Services Agency (GSA).
He was dismissed less than 24 hours by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf after he resigned from the Unity Party and joined the Congress for Democratic Change to contest the 2014 midterm senatorial seat of Lofa which he lost to now senator Steven Zargo.
Controversy arose just moment before the program when Kortimai reportedly received a phone call from his boss, GSA Director General Mary Broh threatening him that he would lose his job if he crosses carpet to the CDC.
Kortimai may not be among the wealthy politicians in Lofa, but he commands a lot of respects among Lofians in the county.
He gained fame when he alerted the people of Lofa that his administration left over US$70,000 in the county’s coffers which was disputed by his successor George Dunor.
But after Kortimai provided pieces of evidence including bank statements it was later proven that he left with his record in tight which has since earned him lot of respect.
What does the future hold for kortimai politically
There is report that he is going to be the new chairman of the UP in Lofa a position political pundit says he may well use market his return to politics given the popularity of the Party and its standard Bearer Former Vice President Joseph Boakai in the county.
He may have scape the question about his intention in 2023 but there are reports that his supporters and many of those who supported senator-elect Brownie Samukai wants him to throw his heart in the race.
Others information yet to be verified indicates that elders of Zorzor District are holding secret meetings with both him and Former Senator Sumo Kupee to future one them as the district candidate for the 2023 Senatorial election
Both men have not been on ood terms dating as far back as their days in the Madam Sirleaf government. It was reported that Kortimai only intention of contesting the 2014 midterm senatorial election was to stop Kupe from being re-elected.
If Kortimai decides to enter the race, he will setup a fight with incumbent Steve Zargo for the CPP ticket, and make Lofa a battleground county for the senate race
