President Weah dedicates Liberia’s first military hospital

The Hospital is part of effort to strengthen the Health delivery System of Liberia

The modernization of healthcare has come to Liberia as President George Manneh Weah continues his infrastructure development by dedicating yet another World Class Hospital the 14 Military Hospital to boost the health sector of Liberia.

Accompanies by his huge Entourage of Government officials, including the Minister of State for Presidential affairs, Nathaniel Fallo McGill, Finance Development and Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah Jr. The Minister of Comerce and Industry Marwina Diggs, Foreign Minister Sir D. Maxwell Kemayah as well as Defense Minister Daniel D. Ziahkan and The Chief of Staff of the Armed Force of Liberia (AFL) Major General Prince C. Johnson, III, among course of Government officials witnessed the history, dedicatory Ceremony of the 14 Military Hospital, situated at the Edward Binyah Kesselly Military Barracks in Schiefflin, Margibi County.

Named and Styled the New14 Military Hospital come as a result of several years of effort and a total investment of 2 million United States dollars.

The Modern State of the Art Facility has acquired a top medical workplace offering comprehensive health care with a capacity of 150 beds.

The Hospital will provide inpatient and Outpatient Services, Obstetric services, General Surgical Services and Emergency Services

The hospital is  the country’s first  Military Hospital and  also boost of Some of its modernize equipment including two Intensive Care Unit ambulances, medical devices, laboratory equipment, emergency department equipment, obstetrics equipment, surgical equipment and out-patient equipment, among others.

Speaking the dedicatory ceremony, President Weah noted that the Construction of the hospital is a big boost for his administration, adding it was a driven need to construct Modern hospital for the Liberian Military, due to some deficiency of Armed forces of Liberia (AFL).

The President mention in his deliberation that his vision to build the Military hospital was fast strike, when he was informed by Defense Minister Daniel Ziahkan in 2018, that some of members of the AFL, was badly injured while serving on a peace-keeping mission in Mali and were taken to Senegal for proper treatment, something he said prompted his decision to construct a hospital that will cater for personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia AFL.

“Ziahkan then told me that they needed to send the wounded soldier’s family to Senegal to be with him, and he was requesting the Government to provide some funds to send the family.  We were able to do that.  

Weah has vowed to complete all signature projects before his tenure expires

“I decided that, instead of sending our soldiers who are on the war front fighting terrorism to different countries when they got wounded, we need to build our own military hospital, where we will have specialists that will treat them, the President said.

The Liberian Chief Executive  further noted that it was clear  that one of the advantages of having a Military Hospital is that families of the wounded would not have to travel to another country to visit their loved ones.  They could go directly from their own homes, which could even encourage the patient to get well sooner.  And the family members themselves could also be treated in the same hospital, President Weah asserted.

President than lauded his partners for helping to make his dreams into reality as his Government is committed to development and infrastructure, The President reassured Liberian he would love to complete all projects embark by his administration, if the time is given.

“The 14 Military Hospital is done, which I am proud of, thank to all efforts applied to make it into reality, this is just one of my signature project, which has been undertaken and completed, the other is the development of Bali Island, that i am confident to execute, President Weah said”.

“There are many who doubt our ability to bring this project to fruition.  But these skeptics do not discourage nor distract me from my mission, the President told the audience.

Meanwhile, according to  Liberian health authority, the hospital will also serve the  general public in addition to the military.

The hospital is Liberia’s first Military healthcare facility

 It was built has part of effort to strengthen the Health delivery System of Liberia.

The occasion was also graced by Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah as well as representatives from the United States, Chinese and Indians Embassies in Monrovia.
