Boakai who was vice president for 12 years says he is best suited for CPP ticket 2023

From all indications It’s seem that former Liberia Vice President, Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai is the face of the Opposition Collaborating Political parties CPP Candidate for the 2023 Presidential and General Election.

Interestingly, last week, a major contender for the CPP Presidential ticket,  Alternative National Congress (ANC) Standard bearer Alexander Benedict Cummings, angrily walk out of a major political meeting of opposition bloc, and thereafter declined invitation from the Unity Party (UP) to attend the program marking the endorsement and presentation of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai as the Unity Party’s Aspirant for the Standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) ticket.

What led to the walking out of Alexander B. Cummings from the CPP stakeholders meeting and his declined in attending the invitation for the endorsement of Amb. Joseph Boakai as the Unity party candidate for the CPP ticket is yet to be fully known.

But an inside source at the Opposition Collaborating Political parties CPP,  told Liberia Public Radio  that Cummings’ action was based on majority of the CPP stakeholders, wanting to endorse Unity party standard bearer Joseph Nyumah Boakai as the CPP Presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The same source said per statement signed by its Secretary General, Aloysius Toe, despite the ANC political leader best efforts to halt and reverse the repeated violations of the Framework Agreement by Political Leaders of the Collaboration of Political Parties (CPP), last week the Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, was forced to walk out of a meeting of Political Leader.

It can be recalled that the Political Leaders of the CPP have recently engaged in the usurpation of the functions of the various organs and functionaries of the CPP in violation of the Framework Agreement. It said that No such power is reserved in the Framework Agreement for the reported actions of the Political Leaders, especially its repeated actions to usurp the functions and authority of the National Advisory Committee (NAC), the National Executive Committee (NEC), and the CPP Secretariat, the statement has said.

Reasons for not attending Boakai endorsement program

On the other hand, reason while the ANC Standard bearer Alexander B. Cummings declined attending the endorsement program of Unity Party CPP candidate Amb. Joseph Boakai on Saturday, was quoted in Communication to Unity Party National Chairman, Amin Modad, Alexander Cummings said that his decision to decline the invitation was because, according to him, Amb. Boakai’s selection as the standard bearer of the Unity Party was held outside of a national convention which he said was a breach of the CPP’s core value.

“I have decline to attend your invitation at this time due to a number of concerns with the process which led to the program. In particular, the action to derive an aspirant for the position of CPP Standard Bearer through a process outside of a national convention falls short of the Core Values of the CPP as stated in section 3.1.2 “Good governance; including in particular Inclusiveness, Participation, Accountability and Transparency,” Cummings has stated in Communication to Unity party chairman Amin Modad.

Further in his communication, the ANC’s Political leader said that the selection also runs contrary to the Guiding Principles of the CPP which provide for the creation of “an enabling environment of upholding the tenets of democracy including respect for the Rule of Law and human rights”, and has the potential to expose the CPP to public ridicule.

“To the Alternative National Congress (ANC), the Core Values and Guiding Principles of the CPP are not without legal force and moral effect. In addition, they define the deeper values of our commitments to each other, and our pledge to the Liberian people for a better Liberia. Therefore, the ANC believes each constituent member of the CPP must act, at all times, to uphold and adhere to the rule of law, including the laws which govern our respective parties,” Cummings has said.

Despite all the setbacks at the CPP doing the week, the Former Ruling Unity Party still went on to present its Standard Bearer Amb. Jospeh Nyumah Boakai as the prefer candidate for the Collaborating political parties ticket comes 2023.
