Ivorian government loses five military personnel in fatal plane crash

Abidjan-Côte d’Ivoire_ The Ivorian ministry of Defense has confirmed the death of five military personals in helicopter in a military aircraft north of the country with Burkina Faso.

During the night of Thursday 09 to Friday 10 September 2021, an Ivorian army MI 24 attack helicopter, on a reconnaissance mission on the northern border line, lost all contact with the control station.

An Ivorian  Defense Ministry source told LPR national Correspondent in Abijan that  searches  carried out enabled the location of the crashed aircraft two kilometers north of the town of Togolokaye, in the department of Tehini, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

The five occupants all died in crash according to a press statement released in Abidjan over the weekend.

“An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy”, the statement added 

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces has extended to the families of the missing and assures them of the support of all the Defense and Security Forces of Côte d’Ivoire.

Ivory Coast’s borderlands with Burkina Faso  where the incident occurred have emerged as hotspots of insecurity in the past year following several attacks by Islamist militants believed to be linked to al Qaeda.
