Liberian Government awards SACLEPEA–TAPPITA Road pavement project to Chinese Company

The Ministry of Public Works and the Chinese Railway Service Group have signed a $US$53.76m agreement for the construction of the 61 kilometers road project from Saclepea to Tappita.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Acting Public Works Minister, Ruth Coker-Collins said the road will positively impact the lives of citizens in the South-eastern part of the country.

Minister Coker-Collins also added that the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) will closely and regularly monitor and ensured that the new Saclepea- Tappita Road will meet the relevant international standards.

According to a document from the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) which is in the possession Liberia Public Radio, the construction of the Saclepea- Tappita corridor is part of efforts aimed at implementing SECRAMP 2, which seeks to link other counties within the Southeastern Region of Liberia.

Min. Collins than lauded Development Partners including the World Bank for the support given to roads connectivity across the country. The acting Minister of Public Works, Collins further reassured Citizens of Liberia of Government’s support toward providing basic social services through the development of major road corridors in the country.

Also speaking briefly, at the signing-ceremony, the Chairman of Liberian Senate Committee on Public Works, Bomi- County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe urged the Chinese company to ensure value for money in constructing the road.

Senator Snowe urged the company to build road that worth international standards taking into consideration the region they are going to build the road.

For his part, the China Railway Seventh Group Representative Mr. Wang Bo thanked the Government of Liberia for the confidence reposed in the Company, adding that they remain committed to the construction of quality roads.

The Saclepea – Tappitta Corridor when completed will link Nimba County to other counties including Grand Gedeh County.

Also speaking, World Bank Country Manager Kwima Nthara expressed satisfaction for the level of cooperation subsisting among Stakeholders, and emphasized that the development of roads continues to bolster economic activities which in turn improve the standard of living.

He pledged the World Bank’s continued support towards Liberia’s growth and development.

The Weah led government has embarked on series of roads construction across the country in a bid to gain re-election in 2023.
