 Liberia’s Legend King George Manneh Weah, the Country most Celebrated Star, now President of the State, has reiterated his support for the Liberia national team.

The President in his 5th Annual state of the Nation Address to the People of Liberia, on Monday, January 24, 2022, said Despite the  Liberia National team poor-runs of form in International Competitions with huge supports given, there’s a chance to improved and upgrade the Lone Star by adding new breed of players to beef up the current squad.

Liberia National team, recently had an necessitous performances in the 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifying series as well as an inauspicious campaign to pending Qatar 2022 World Cup finals slated for October this year, thus far being eliminated from a double -International Competitions.

President Weah said that, while he regret the performance of his beloved Lone Star, in international, his Government will continue its support financially in helping scout the best talents to built a formidable national team that will compete with others across the African continent and fly the Red, White and blue flag, globally.

The Chief Patron of Sports, George Manneh Weah, than appreciated and congratulated Nimba County and Grand Kru County for winning the Football, Volleyball and Basketball componets of the 2022 National Counties Sports meets.

It can be recalled on Sunday, January 16, 2022 Nimba County defeated Gbarpolu County 2-1 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports (SKD)Complex in Paynesville to lift the 26 edition of the National County Sports meets football crown, while a day earlier Grand Kru County won both Basketball and Volleyball episodes of the Premier Sports event.

President Weah in his “SONA” congratulated the two counties for clinching the nations pretigious Sports trophies, the President said; Once again, I would like to congratulate Nimba County for clinching this year’s soccer category.  My congratulations also go to all other winners, President Weah said.

It would be remiss of me if I did not also take this opportunity to personally congratulate the Volleyball and Basketball teams from Grand Kru County for their historical victories in these categories in the 2022 National County Meet. 

They made history in two ways: Firstly, they won the first ever Volleyball category that was included in the County Meet, and secondly, they are the first county to ever win TWO categories in the County Meet.  Congratulations, once again! the Chief Patron of Sports added.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Legend, King George Manneh Oppong Weah, also highlighted Sports as essential tools for development, and key growth to youth, something the 1995 FIFA Player of the year winner terms as potential upbring that help keeps the young people physically and mentally strong.

The former AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain PSG Superstar further said despite the challenges the Liberia’sports program has faced, it has been improving years, with the County Meet being a major highlight.
