President George Manneh Weah on Tuesday, Janauary 25, 2022, handed over 30 Vehicles “Nissan Pickups, 150 Motorbikes and 15 Ambulances as a special gifts to the Liberia’s Council of Chiefs and Elders.
According to President Weah, each of the 15 Counties, Paramount Chiefs are to benefit two (2) pickups each and 10 Motorbikes each to the County Traditional leaders, bringing a total of (150) One hundred and fifty motorbikes given by the President to each of the 15 Counties Paramount chiefs.
The President also presented 15 Ambulances to each of the fifteen political sub-division of Liberia (15) Counties Health team to bulgress Government efforts of enhancing quick medical respond to illnesses of its people.
The Ambulances provided by the President to each counties will help the County Health team, quickly respond to emergency health related cases, like sickness, accidents, among others.
Handing over the vehicles, President George Manneh Weah said all people, regardless of their standing in society, should respect traditional leaders because of the role they play in communities as the custodians of the country’s cultural norms and values.
President Weah said:” The vehicles and motorbikes will add great dignity to the work of chiefs and elders in the counties, who are helping to maintain the peace.”
Weah urged the traditional leaders to maintain the vehicles and motorbikes, as they are meant to boost their movements and make life convenient.
The Presentation of the gifts from the President to chiefs yesterday was part of promises kept by the Liberian leader, during the 2020-2021 special Presidential Counties tour, of which President promise to ensured that all chiefs were mobile. Admist the challenges the Senior Citizens of our country ( Council of Chiefs and elders) faced in comuting from one point to another to carryout traditional custom.
President George Manneh Weah also reacted to political criticisms from the public that his gesture to the chiefs is precampaign maditate for the 2023 Presidential and General Election.
President Weah said:” I hear some opposition say is campaign promises, but After twelve years, previous government could not buy bicycles for traditional chiefs, but they’re here to some criticize the gifts, let them continue to talk, while we work to service our people, President Weah said.”
In a related development, the Superintendent Council of Liberia has officially petitioned President George Weah to re–contest in the 2023 General Elections.
The Chairman of the Council, Grand Bassa County Superintendent Janjay Baikpek, read the petition statement on behalf of his colleagues at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, during the formal presentation of the Mobile to the Council of chiefs and elders Republic of Liberia.
Superintendent Baikpeh said:” The decision was reached based on careful review of massive developments undertaken by President Weah’s Administration.”
To ensure President Weah’s re-election come 2023, he said they will go all out in the trenches of the counties to campaign for the Liberian Leader.
Superintendent Baikpeh said the petition decision is not only popular with members of the Superintendent Council of Liberia, but also citizens who endorsed the decision.
