Alexander Benedict Cummings, of the opposition political party, Alternative National Congress (ANC) has demanded President George Manneh Weah to address the nation on the issues of corrupt Governance, poverty manipulations, and unstable economy.

Mr. Cummings has since disagreed with President George Weah last month 5th State of Nation address, of which the Liberian leader said the Country Economy is stable and gradually growing.

Mr. Cummings on the contrary said the  Country is on the rampage of Corruption, sluggish economy and bad Governance under the leadership of President George Weah, since he took office in 2018.

Cummings said the President needs to address the reality of situations in the country, acting now or rather faced the tough of wrong leadership questions tomorrow. Mr. Cummings criticized the government for the poor state of the economy, lack of stable Electricity in the country and unbearable living conditions of the people, something he said it is time to act and therefore made several recommendation to the government.

“Since President Weah came to power, Liberia’s net economic growth is ZERO. The economy is still sluggish, corruption is rampant. After promising to create one million jobs, unemployment remains above 80%, youth unemployment is higher than in 2017, and the exchange rate is high with prices for every single commodity – from food to gas to dokafleh – higher today than when President Weah came to power”, Mr. Cummings said.

The ANC political leader Alexander Benedict Cummings faulted the President’s sincerity to the citizens and said his description of the state of the Liberian economy and the Republic is not only patently false, it is insensitive, offensive and disconnected representing an alternative reality to the worsening hardships and deteriorating plight many Liberians are living through daily. “The President has failed, and is now hoping to deceive Liberians with even more promises. It has been reported that out of the 169 promises the President has made, he has only kept 11,   which is a score of 7%. Obviously, President Weah is good at making promises, and very bad at fulfilling promises”, Mr. Cummings stated.

Mr. Cummings said the President’s recent SONA message has heightened fears and deepen whatever tinge of any hope that was left as the nation waited to hear practical policy prescription on how to revamp the economy, return to good governance and avert further financial disasters that still lie ahead. “We must act with some urgency to prevent the situation from degenerating into benevolent devastation,” he further asserted.

Cummings further intoned that the Liberian state is leaderless with the incredibility of President George Manneh Weah and his poor governance. “My fellow citizens: Our state is basically leaderless. To put it in COVID-19 terms, President Weah is in self-imposed quarantine. This likely explains why he would ridiculously declare our crime-infested streets, beaches and urban communities to be “peaceful and strong”, and say to Liberians who are suffering through this every day that everything is alright

In rural communities, life is just as it has always been, if not worse, especially for women and children, with many dying in childbirths and from preventable and treatable illnesses, while still too many Liberian babies are dying before they reach their 5th birthdays. We are not in a military battle, and the President may be thinking that the absence of war automatically means that Liberia is at peace”.

Cummings did not spare President Weah on a single perpetually, and frown on the current state of electricity in the country, something he said should be the least, Liberian should expect from President as he boost of fixing the bad condition of electricity in Liberia.

He has assured Liberians that ‘when elected as President come 2023, His Cummings administration will fix the electricity embarrassment currently been experienced by Liberians.

Cummings guarantee Liberian of a stable and reliable supply of electricity during the rainy and dry seasons, and will connect more homes, communities and businesses to the electricity grid not as a special privilege for a few’.

“A Cummings administration will fix LEC. We will guarantee stable and reliable supply of electricity during the rainy and dry seasons, and will connect more homes, communities and businesses to the electricity grid not as a special privilege for a few but a right of Liberians to the country’s development’. He intoned.

Mr. Cummings further asserted on comments made by President Weah about the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), stating it was unfortunate that President Weah didn’t mentioned that his government has repeatedly failed to meet the benchmarks of the MCC for renewal thereby losing millions of dollars to improve access to electricity.
