Ivory Coast torrential rain leaves 6 dead and several properties damaged

 An Ivorian government delegation comprised of the Ministers of Interior and Security, Vagondo Diomandé, of Hydraulics, Sanitation, Bouaké Fofana, and of Solidarity the Fight against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo,  has visited the village of Angorankoi and the Cité CIE, in the commune of Bingerville, where the torrential rains early this week caused the loss of human lives and several property damaged.

Four children between ages 4 to 15, all from the same family lost their lives in the village of Angorankoi after a section of wall hosting their collapsed on their bedroom due to heavy downpour,according to information gathered the Liberia Public Radio national Correspondent in Abidjan.

 It was in the presence of the government delegation that the lifeless bodies of the four children were transferred to the morgue on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Our correspondent said the Minister of Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo asked the village chief to agree to move the population to a more secured location in order to avoid re-occurrence of tragedies.

 She promised to bring in a team of government to ensure the effective departure of the populations from the site which presents enormous risks.

The delegation then went to the Cité CIE (The Ivoirian Electricity Estate) where several homes were all flooded on Tuesday.

The water level forced many families to take refuge on the upper floor of their homes in the district and the death of a little girl was recorded not far from the mosque.

 It was also discovered, in the CIE estate that a lifeless body

of an adult who believed have been trapped in his vehicle in the face of the strong rising waters, a total six deaths and numerous material damage were also reported in Abidjan following the heavy rain that fell in the district.

The ministers on behalf of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara extended the government’s condolences to the bereaved families and expressed their compassion to the families who lost everything due to the floods.

 Minister Myss Belmonde Dogo indicated that in agreement with the town hall of Bingerville arrangements are being made to allow affected families who no longer have housing to be temporarily installed on an appropriate site.

 She promised to return to bring compassion to the material plan of the government to the victims as well as to the bereaved families in a shortest possible time.
