She said no amount of government intimidation can keep her quiet.

Speaking to cross section of journalists on Friday, February 17, 2023 in Abidjan, Edith Gbalet vowed to speak against ills in society, nothing that freedom of expression is key in any democratic state.

Pulchérie Edith Gbalet was incarcerated few months ago in Côte d’Ivoire for a statement the Ivorian government termed as unhealthy for the peace and stability of the West African country.

Pulchérie Edith Gbalet, president of the organization, Alternative Citoyenne Ivoirienne (Aci), was arrested and then imprisoned on August 22, 2022 at the biggest prison center in Abidjan (Maca).

Her incarceration is believed to be linked to a trip to Mali where the forty nine (49) Ivorian soldiers accused of being “mercenaries” were detained,  by Mali’s military government.

The Ivorian government claimed at the time that the soldiers were on Malian territory serving the United Nations.

The Ivorian Female human rights activist lauded efforts of her legal team, the media, friends, family members,  and those who contributed immensely that led to her freedom.
