At long last the national Elections Commission (NEC) Thursday August 29,  announced final result into the controversial Montserrado county District 15 bye-election.

The result now put ruling Coalition for Democratic Change candidate Abu Bana Kamara in front with 8,678 votes or 49.2% while opposition backed candidate Telia Urey accrued 6,868 votes or 38.9%.

The result atomically declared Abu Kamara as winner of the July 29 Representative Bye-election to replace the late Adolph Lawrence who was killed in a fatal motor accident early this year along the Monrovia-RIA highway.

According to NEC Acting Chairman Jonathan Weedor said the Abu Kamara will be certificated next Monday at the commission’s headquarters in Monrovia.

The NEC ordered a re-run of six precincts and 20 polling places on Wednesday August 28, 2019 in District#15.

This followed a complaint which was filed by ALP candidate Telia Urey pointing out   some irregularities during the June 29, 2019 Montserrado County senatorial and Representative bye- election in the District after a hearing by NEC independent officer into the complaint.

Electoral observers have described the re-run as peaceful, but with a huge presence of police forces who were all dressed in riot gear and seen at every polling stations in the district.

Urey conceded defeat

Conceding to her defeat, Telia Urey  posted on her facebook page “Against so many odds and evil, we fought fiercely! Not for personal gains, but for a better district and a better Liberia. We may have lost this election, but we have won the confidence and trust of our people. To our supporters, we can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve put into this process. Our struggle for your lives to get better just begun! You can always count on me to be there!”

In a related development, NEC has set October 5, 2019 for the by- election in Grand Cape Mount County. The National Election Commission has released a list of seven candidates’ two females and five males to contest in the senatorial by election in that county.

The cape Mount by-election is  as a result of the death of Senator Edward Dagoseh.
