Ahead of the Coalition for Democratic Change’s nationwide primaries, several Partisans of the National Patriotic Party in Margibi County have favored Ambassador Alfred Sieh Thomas for the ensuing 2020 midterm senatorial election in the County.
The National Patriotic Party (NPP) is one of the three political parties that formed a coalition in 2017 know as the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) to unseat the former ruling Unity Party.
But the three Parties including the National Patriotic Party (NPP), the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Liberian People Democratic Party (LPDP) have chairpersons in Margibi County with two figuring out individuals they feel can represent their respective institutions.
Earlier, it has been widely spread in the County that the Congress for Democratic Change has interest in supporting Margibi District #2 Representative Ivar K. Jones evidence by his presence in several of the party’s meetings and a joint presentation of food and non-food items to storm victims of Weala recently by his office and the Nathaniel McGill Humanitarian Foundation owned and operated by the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel Fahlon McGill.
Unlike the Liberian People Democratic Party (LPDP) which has not publicly shown any individual as an interest, the National Patriotic Party has also figured out Ambassador Thomas as a choice for the pending 2020 midterm senatorial election.
The Vice Chair for Operations of the NPP Margibi Chapter, McHilary Malan Snoch at a recently held Margibi County convention presented a petition document to the National Executive Committee of the party declaring Ambassador Thomas as their choice for the upcoming senatorial election.
He said their decision is predicated upon Mr. Thomas’ leadership role played at the level of the Party over the years and his commitment to the party among others.
Mr. Snoch indicated that in keeping with the most recent time table released by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) for the conduct of senatorial primary in the Country and Partisans of the NPP Margibi Chapter being an integral part of the body politics of the Country and the NPP want to exercise their democratic right under the Constitution by selecting one of their own sons to represent them in the December 2020 midterm election.
“In view of this development, we the partisans of NPP Margibi chapter would like to use this medium to officially petition and recommend partisan A. Sieh Thomas as our candidate to contest on the ticket of the Coalition for Democratic Change in the upcoming senatorial midterm election” he said.
According to him, they are convinced that the Ambassador when given the opportunity, he will be easily marketable politically in upper and lower Margibi County where he is well grounded.
In a related development, NPP has restructured the Party’s leadership in Margibi County.
The Margibi County restructuring committee Chairperson Hon George S. Mulbah giving an overview of the restructuring of the County leadership in Margibi said the momentum of the Party in the County has declined and is due to what he called lack of collaboration and weak leadership abilities among past leaders governing the Party in the County.
The former NPP Bong County District #3 lawmaker decried that the National Patriotic Party (NPP) in Margibi has turned to be a new political party in the county, something he believes the party needed to be rejuvenated and gained its supporters back.
The Margibi Chapter convention was attended by 45 delegates from the five electoral districts of Margibi County to elect new officers at the county level.
Meanwhile, those elected and inducted at the Margibi convention include Mr. Sam N, Zor, Sr. Chairman, Aaron Ansumana vice chair for Administration, McHilary Malan Snoch vice chair for operations and Clarence Gona secretary seneral. Others are A. Francis Okai, Jr Assistant Secretary for operations, Emmanuel Yah Treasurer, Sam Gbar-Gaye Chairman NPP Traditional Council and Joseph Fayaih NAPAL among others.
Speaking after his election as Chairman of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) Margibi Chapter, Sam N. Zor who was elected on a white ballot thanked the delegates for reposing confidence in him to serve the Party.
He promised to unite partisans of Margibi County and will at the same time insure the Party gains its lost identity within the County.
