The Press Union of Liberia is deeply saddened by the death of Sinoe County District Two Representative Jay Nagbe Sloh.

Representative Sloh was pronounced dead at the John F. Kennedy Medical Hospital on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Before being elected lawmaker, Jay Nagbe worked as freelance journalist in the early 1980s and later with the Sun Times, the Mirror and Footprints Newspapers. Sloh also served on the Executive Committee of the Press Union of Liberia.

The revered journalist is credited for revamping the Liberia News Agency (LINA) as Director General of the state news organ.

Representative Sloh as Chair on the Committee on Information and Broadcasting at the House of Representatives led the legislative lobby which resulted to the passage of the K. Abdullai Kamara Act of Press Freedom.

In a release issued by the Press Union of Liberia, the Journalists Union described the death of Representative Jay Nagbe Sloh as an irreparable loss to the Journalism Community in Liberia. The Union laments that the death of Sloh has reduced number of media reform influencers and champions in the legislature.

Meanwhile, the Press Union of Liberia has disclosed that it will engage the Sloh Family and the House of Representatives to include traditional funeral ritual accorded media practitioners by the Union in the state obituary.
