Falswar International Charity, Inc. (Liberia) Celebrates Senior Citizens’ Day

Falswar International Charity, Inc. (Liberia) has for the first time celebrated what it terms as “Senior Citizens Day program” in Liberia.

The one day event which took place at the JJ Roberts United Methodist School Auditorium on 12th Street in Sinkor, Monrovia on Monday August 24, 2020 brought together over two hundred and fifty persons including old folks (men and women), visually impaired people and people living with disabilities as well as widows among others.

As party of the celebration, participants were provided with cooked food, non-alcoholic drinks and special made bread.

The Country Director of the organization in Liberia, Joseph Edzii in an interview with Liberia Public Radio  said the intent of the program is to share with the needy and the less fortunate people in the Country since it is only on the Country’s Independence Day there can be excess of food.

Additionally, Mr. Edzii said the program is meant to honor their senior citizens (old folks) who have been forgotten noting that the program makes them to feel that someone cares for them.

“The fact that Mr. Swaray has this passion for those that are hungry, we chose this day where we can at least share with them what we have, you know ordinarily only on July 26th you see food waste; but we took August 24th where after the July 26th people don’t have much and then to honor our senior citizens” he explained.

Falswar USA Chapter according to Mr. Edzii, thought it wise to raise fund and organize the Senior Citizens day program which will be held on an annually basis.

He stated that the organization through its volunteers who are serving as coordinators in their various communities were able to recruit the participants.

Mr. Edzii further disclosed that this is not the first time Falswar is catering to the needs of people, stating that it have had two successful rice distributions in Montserrado County.

He said the next move for the organization is to organize Christmas’ party for the children which is expected to take place in December of this year and every other year respectively.

The Falswar International Charity, Inc. (Liberia) Country Director revealed that at the event, the organization will distribute toys and other materials amongst the children.

He at the same time disclosed plan of extending the work of the organization across the Country in order to reach out to more senior citizens and the less fortunate people. He used the opportunity to thank the USA Chapter of Falswar and its partners for thinking about the citizens.

For his part, the Assistant Country Director of Falswar, Gbarpue Cooper said the aim of the organization established a little over nine months ago is to meet the needs of those who are underprivileged such as old folks, disable people and the visually impaired among others.

He asserted that the organization is also involved into providing education for children, youths and adults through scholarship opportunity. He mentioned that since its establishment, Falswar has been able to reach out to the needy in Liberia

He divulged that the organization initially distributed 50 bags of 25kg rice to fifty persons followed by the distribution of 112 bags of 25kg rice correspondingly.

Gbarpue Cooper then lauded the visionary of Falswar; Mr. Anthony Fallah Swaray, Sr. for seeing the need to come to the aid of the underprivileged and to get their people out of poverty.

Meanwhile, participants of the one day event have thanked officials of Falswar for organizing the program. Some of the participants in separate remarks said this is the first time they are forming part of such occasion.

They used the occasion to call on the Falswar’s family to continue the good work and at the same time called on other Liberians abroad to follow the good example of Mr. Swaray.
