Liberia on its way to improve Poultry Sector; Ghanaian Investor offers to invest

The Poultry Farmers Association of Liberia (POFAL) was officially launched on October 27, 2020 in Monrovia to lead the process of uniting poultry farmers, solicit funding and technical support to revise and improve the sector.

The process of organizing and launching the organization was supported and facilitated by a Ghanaian Investor and Chief Executive Officer of the Boris ‘B’ Farm in Ghana, Dr. Boris Baidoo.

The official launched of POFAL was performed by Liberia Agriculture Minister, Jeanine Cooper who emphasized the importance for the leadership of POFAL to engender a process that would immediately unite poultry farmers in Liberia in an attempt to rebuild and strengthen the sector.

Minister Cooper called for collective effort and commitment on the part of the farmers if they must take the sector from its current state of underdevelopment to a much more appreciable level.

She disclosed that Liberia is spending 46-million United States Dollars on the importation of poultry food and argued that this must stop with the intervention of the Poultry Farmers Union of Liberia.

Minister Cooper said though the Liberia’s poultry sector is confronted with immense challenges, it only takes commitment and dedication by actors in the sector to change the narrative.

The Liberia Agro Minister, however, pledged the Ministry of agriculture’s commitment and support to improving the sector through POFAL, and commended Dr. Boris Baidoo for his role and support in establishing POFAL.

Minister Cooper described Dr. Baidoo as a true regional partner who is determined to support the Government of Liberia agriculture program mainly in the poultry sector.

Dr. Baidoo, an astute and passionate poultry Farmer in Ghana, offered to provide his expertise and strategy to the Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture to develop and improve the Country’s poultry sector.

He also expressed his demonstrated commitment to work along with the Poultry Farmer Association of Liberia to setup County and district level committees that will direct and keep the POFAL active in the respective localities.

Dr. Baidoo noted that access to finance for the poultry farmers is crucial and promised to seek alternative financial opportunities to help build the capacity of the famers.

The Ghanaian Businessman said his intervention in Liberia poultry sector is not only for money making but to create jobs for young Liberians.

Dr. Baidoo indicated that the Sector has the potential to create thousands of employment and provide empowerment.

He told Liberians that the Ghanaian Government has initiated series of programs in the Agriculture Sector of Ghana to reduce the high importation of poultry products and other consumable products.

He assured that some of those programs could actually be replicated in Liberia with the aim of reducing high import and, at the same time, contribute to the government of Liberia job creation program.

In remarks, POFAL President Fatu Kaizulu lauded Dr. Baidoo for his resolved to help establish the organization and his resolve to improve the sector by offering  to supply feeds and chickens at reasonable cost to the farmers.

Madam Kaizulu said “this is what we have all been yarning for and thank God that we have launched this organization with the help of Dr. Daiboo”.

She pledged to put into place innovative program to help strengthen and sustain the operations of POFAL in the general interest of not only its members but the entire Country.

Madam Kaizulu also added that her administration will open up the organization to allow Liberians of interest to play much more proactive role to revise the sector.

As part of the launch, the President of the livestock Association of Liberia, Madam Mai Urey, welcomed the formation of POFAL and promised to offer her expertise and support to the POFAL Leadership in the realization of their dream.

Madam Urey argued that the Poultry sector is capable of hugely contributing to the Country’s economy while providing nutrition for the population.

President George Weah’s Economy advisor, Charles Bright, who himself is a poultry farmer expressed happiness for the bold step taken by the farmers and lauded Dr. Boris Baidoo’s support towards the revitalization of the Country’s poultry sector.

Mr. Bright assured that he would appropriately inform President Weah about the effort and solicit whatever support the President can offer in rebuilding, strengthening and sustaining intervention that will improve the sector.

The Chief Executive Officer of Premium Africa Holdings Farouk Khailann described the launch of POFAL as a new day for Liberia’s poultry sector.

Mr. khaillann said Liberia’s poultry sector has a huge potential for which any investor can setup a poultry farm in the Country.

Dr. Baidoo,  poultry Farmer in Ghana, offered to provide his expertise and strategy to the Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture to develop and improve the Country’s poultry sector.

He said it has been established that Liberians eat more chicken and other poultry products as such any investor coming to invest in the sector investment would be guarantee.

Mr. Khaillann, however, encouraged Liberians to collectively work together to ensure that the potential that the sector presents can be realized.

Mr. Khaillann explained that his entity will create more opportunities for those working in the poultry sector of Liberia to enhance their work.

He said Premium Africa Holdings was very much instrumental to attract the Ghanaian Poultry Investor, Dr. Boris Baidoo to the poultry sector of Liberia.
