Liberia: Elite presidential guard agent reportedly shots himself dead; but public questions sincerity of the reports

In Tappita,Nimba County, it was reported early Friday morning that an Agent of the Executive Protection Service(EPS) has shot himself dead.

Agent Melvin Earley, member of the EPS Agents providing VIP protection for President George Weah, while on his County-led tour, allegedly shot himself three times in the head during the President stopover in Tappita.

Preliminary reports by the EPS suggest that Agent Earley allegedly shot himself at about 06:03 a.m on February 19,2021 while serving duty.

A statement released by Authorities of the EPS expressed regrets for the death of Agent Earley and at the same time assured full scale investigation into the matter to establish cause of  any potential suicide.

The News of the death of the EPS Agent has created serious concerns in Liberia with some Liberians questioning reports that he shot himself three times  in his head before dying.

The gun used by Agent Earley to kill himself is yet to be made public and that condition that caused him shoot himself to death is also unknown.

Agent Earley has been serving the EPS since the restructuring of the service after the Liberian Civil crisis.
