MAP Liberia Land Platform holds first media partnership meeting in Monrovia

In an effort to towards strengthening collaboration and increasing its visibility, the Multi-Actor Platform for Land Governance in Liberia (MAP Liberia Land Platform) has ended media engagement and partnership meeting.

 The event, which was the organization’s first large media engagement, took place on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation’s Conference Room, on the Capitol Hill Campus of the University of Liberia.

In a press statement, read by MAP Liberia Land Platform Communication and reporting Officer Haje Passaway said the event was intended to form partnership with the media aimed at creating further awareness on the activities of MAP Liberia project in Liberia.

Mr. Passaway added that the role of the media is crucial to implementation of the project, as such the media will form an integral part of the project activities.

He added that  MAP Liberia Land Platform is a nationally owned process initiated in February, 2018, by the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) spearheaded by Rights and Rice Foundation (RRF).

The platform brings together various actors and stakeholders including land, environment and agriculture related agencies of government, private sector institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Community Based Organizations, Academia and Research Institutions; as well as International development partners.

The meeting brought  together professionals from across the print and electronic media landscape of Liberia. Media practitioners from the Liberia News Agency, Female Journalists Association of Liberia and Journalists for the Protection of Nature were among key media institutions that  attended the meeting.

The MAP envisages a Liberia where land governance and responsible agricultural Investments are improved to guarantee all citizens’ land rights for sustainable food security, development and peace.

The MAP platform is sponsored by the German Government funded ‘Land for Life – Making Policies Work for Food Security’, the International Land Coalition through the National Engagement Strategy (NES), and gradually receiving support from the World Bank, FAO and other organizations.
