Liberia: President Weah calls for settlement of longstanding Land conflict between Rivercess and Sinoe

Land conflict in Liberia has led to the destruction of several properties and lives in recent decades

Greenville, Sinoe_Liberia’s President George Manneh Weah is urging citizens of the southeastern counties smoke Peace Pipe and resolve their long-standing land dispute with neighboring Rivercess.

The neighboring  Southeasterners  are in a dispute over a parcel of land, which is said to be the Boundary between Rivercess and Sinoe that divided the two counties.

President Weah, frowned on the growing tension of conflict between Rivercess and Sinoe something he termed as embarrassing and “shameful” noting that only with peaceful coexistence that Liberia will move forward as a country.

 He further decried that the people of Liberia to stop the confusion and move together as one people.

“Citizens still grumbling over parcels of land that have existed for more than a century, is embarrassing and shameful your need to stop this, the President said.

The Liberian leader urged citizens to unite and work in oneness for the growth and prosperity of the country.

President Weah was speaking at the kick start of his Fourth-leg of Presidential Counties Tour in Togbaville, Sinoe County, where he held his first town hall meeting with citizens in that part of the country.

Our reporter said president Weah was in response to a petition by the people of Sanquin Statutory District, seeking his intervention in a long-standing land dispute between the people of Sinoe and River Cess Counties.

“Unfortunate Liberians after 173years you’re still fighting among yourself over a little parcel of land, which shameful and disgraceful to the state. 

Just the other day, we were in Maryland settling land dispute, between Grandkru and  Maryland, and today again we are here, with same issue, this is embarrassing, southeasters cannot be fighting among themselves”, he frowned.

“You can’t derail the peace process because of land conflict”, President Weah, reemphasized as he cautioned them to come together and resolve the crisis” the Liberian leader adds.

The President then called on authorities of the two counties to work with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to hold a dialogue between the people of Sinoe and River Cess Counties as best way for to settle the conflict.

Counties across Liberia have been recently engulfed with land conflict due to the lack of clear boundary demarcation-sometimes leading to tribal conflict.

Recently similar land dispute between three families from the mandingo tribe on one side and Mano tribe on one hand led to the burning of the biggest warehouse facility in the densely populated commercial city of Ganta in Nimba County about 267 kilometers from Monrovia.
