CAF Bans Liberia’s SKD stadium from hosting World Cup qualifier matches

Liberia’s Lone Star will not play Central African Republic at home on September 8, 2021 in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier due to Sanction of it main playing pitch  Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium which has been banned by Confederation of African Football (CAF).

For decades the 36,000 seated Capacity Stadium in Paynesville outside the Nation Capital Monrovia has been home ground for the Red, White and Blue outfit, the place they knock boots with opposite team in an International matches.

The Stadium has also be used for the nation famous Sports festival the National Counties Sports Meets and other Sporting activities.

CAF latest decision comes in awake after an inspection team from the body had visited the Stadium to carryout inspection ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier Matches against Nigeria (Away ) and Central African Republic C.A.R. at (home ).

The African Sports body in it’s latest communication dated August 24, 2021 said due to the need to ensure the best playable conditions in the upcoming qualifying match, the following decisions have now been taken:

 Former prohibition is made to use the SKD Sports Complex or any other stadium in Liberia for the qualifying matches of the World Cup by FIFA, Qatar 2022, starting from 30 August to 7 September window due to non-compliance as at the time of inspection.

 “Your national association is requested to play the qualifying Match day 2 for the FIFA World Cup against Central Africa Republic in Stade de la Reunification Douala (Cameroon)on September 6 at 1600Hrs GMT”, the communication said.

However, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has  taken serious exception to the communication and has vehemently reacted following galvanization of funds and subsequent purchased of air tickets for all its players from abroad to Nigeria and back to Monrovia including hotels costs a combination of accommodation and feeding.

It is worthy to note, that all this after CAF has encouraged the LFA to continue the ongoing renovation program and to confirm the purchase of all required stadium equipment to fulfil the SKD to be ‘’homologated.’’
