The Minister of Communication, Media and Francophonie, Amadou Coulibaly, announced Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Abidjan, a monthly allowance of CFAF 250,000 to retired senior journalists, in order to help some out of precariousness and indigence.

This state of financial assistance is expected to be at the end of September 2021 to each beneficiary according to communication minister.

The Cenacle of Senior Journalists of Côte d’Ivoire (CJS-CI) is the body chosen by the ministry of communication to identify the beneficiaries, said Minister Amadou Coulibaly, during an audience held at his office in Plateau, Abidjan.

“When you have been a figure, an icon of the media, it is important that you maintain a certain dignity even when you are retired”.

“This is why, like the Ministry of Culture, we have decided to provide monthly support to those of them who find themselves in difficult social situations”, revealed the Minister of Communication, to the satisfaction of senior journalists.
The Minister of Communication has also decided that the Cenacle be an advisory body of his ministry in order to better supervise the new generations of the press profession and to educate the Ivorian society more about the influence of social networks.

Consequently, he adhered to the institution’s program of activities, in particular for immersion missions for seniors in editorial staff, master classes for seniors and the holding of Cenacle panels on topical issues open to the general public.
The president of the executive council of the Cenacle, Lucien Houédanou, expressed thanks to Minister Amadou Coulibaly for the social assistance.

He also affirmed the availability of the association to respond to requests from the ministry for public interest, expressing the need to restore the profession of journalism in accordance with the fundamentals.

Created on October 24, 2020, the CJS-CI brings together around a hundred journalists from the print and audiovisual media and it is structured into specialized pools, in particular training, publishing, monitoring to bring their expertise to the corporation and to the Nation.
