Voinjama, Lofa- In the wake of the recent elections in Lofa, citizens from various communities have come together to appeal to defeated candidate  Moses Kollie, urging him to drop his complaint before the National Election Commission (NEC).

The citizens believe that putting aside electoral disputes is crucial for the unity and progress of the region.

The citizen under the banner “Concerned Citizens United to Defend Democracy” is demanding a swift resolution to the electoral dispute, emphasizing the need for the region to move forward.

Moses Kollie, who faced defeat in the recent senatorial election, has lodged a complaint with the National Election Commission (NEC), alleging irregularities and improprieties in the electoral process.

While legal avenues for addressing electoral concerns are essential, the citizens of Lofa stress the importance of prioritizing the greater good and fostering a spirit of unity within the community.

The group, comprising prominent citizens from Lofa and predominantly from the Gbandi land chiefdom in their press statement issued Tuesday December 5, 2023 also called on Magistrate Robert Sele, the Lower Lofa Magistrate who is presiding over the matter to immediately dispose.

According to them the case has dragged on for over a month and allow the Lofa people’s duly elected senator to play meaningful role in the impending senate leadership election.

They argue that the prolonged uncertainty is adversely affecting the development and progress of the region.

“We want to assure you that any attempt to circumvent the genuine will of the people will not be tolerated by a micro inch, and we urge the commission to prioritize the democratic ideals that our nation holds and retain its credibility of managing elections as affirmed by international observers in their handling of the October 10 poll”, the group said in their statement.

Mr. Kollie  who contested on the current ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) was defeated by Mr. Momo Cyrus, former Chairman of the Lofa County Sport Steering Committee and CEO of Security Expert Guard Service of Liberia (SEGAL).

As the NEC reviews the complaint, the citizens of Lofa hope that their collective plea will resonate with Moses Kollie and inspire a resolution that prioritizes the well-being and unity of the community above all else.

In these critical times, the focus remains on fostering a sense of togetherness to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Lofa.
