In the wake of planned June 7 protest, a planned meeting between the House of Representatives and the Council of Patriots (COP) in continuation of stakeholders’ engagement initiatives about growing political stalemate in the country is expected to take place at the capitol building.

According to state radio, ELBC, the forum is expected to be attended by representatives of Liberia’s Peace Ambassador and the Peace Building Office.

The House’s Peace Religious and National Reconciliation Committee leadership earlier invited COP’s leadership on Thursday May 30, 2019 through Nimba County Representatives, Dorwohn Gleekia, as Chairman wants the ‘Save the State Protest’ organizers of the planned protest to put forth their grievances, to keep the Committee abreast.

Similar meeting between the Liberian Senate and the COP, failed to take place on Thursday, May 30, 2019, after a member of COP opted that the meeting be held in the presence of the media.

Organizers of the planned June 7 protest have whispered a list of demands which included the resignation of Finance and Economic Planning Minister Samuel Tweah, who heads the government’s Economic Management Team and Central Bank Governor Nathaniel Patray; the establishment of a war crimes court and prosecution for those accused of stealing government money, notably the missing LD16 billion and the fate of US$25 million intended for infusion in the economy to curb the rising US dollar exchange rate on the market.

It remains unclear whether protest organizers will honor the House of Representative invitation in order to iron up issues about the protest.
