Electoral materials arrive for Montserrado by-elections

Liberia Public Radio has reliably learnt that the long-awaited materials for the conduct of two by-elections in Montserrado County arrived in Liberia on Thursday, July 18.

The materials came via the Roberts International Airport onboard Kenya Airways cargo.

The county’s District 15 and Senatorial by-elections have been postponed twice due to the inaccessibility of electoral materials. 

Prior to the July 8 postponement, the by-election was set for July 2.

Though, the NEC Chairman, Cllr. Jerome Korkoya in a press conference told Liberians that holding the July 2 would have been possible as they were expecting the material kits by June 30 but did not materialize.

The prepacked electoral materials are used by the poll workers for the conduct of the by-elections.

A source close to the Board of Commissioners gathered the commission would shortly announce a new date for the by-election after verification and discussion with political parties.

A total ballot papers of nine hundred and ninety-three thousand, eight hundred and fifty (993,850) will be used for the senatorial by-election, while fifty-two thousand, two hundred and fifty (52,250) will be used for the representative by-election

About one million forty-six thousand, one hundred ballot papers are currently in the country. They include ballot papers, tactile ballot guides, forms, and record of the counts.
