National Water Sanitation and Hygiene Commission Donates to Media

The protection of the Liberia media practitioners has claimed the attention of the National Water Sanitation and Hygiene Commission (NAWSHC) towards the fight against COVID-19 in Liberia.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of NAWSHC, Bobby Whitfield, members of the Liberian media have been providing requisite information concerning the preventive measures against COVID-19 indicated by the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Health and National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) for the public in the fight against coronavirus across the nation.

Chief Whitfield made the assertion Tuesday when the Commission donated 50 hands washing buckets, one box of chloral and one box of tile soap to protect media practitioners in Liberia against the deadly disease.

He noted that media practitioners are also on the frontline to ensure that factual information about preventing the further spread of disease among the population through their reportage from the field on the dailies basis in fighting COVID-19 out of Liberia.

He stressed that the media practitioners are strategy partners to the government and to ensure that the Liberian people observed all the preventive measures in curbing the spread of the deadly disease which is a global pandemic that has no cure now.

Chief Whitfield maintained that media practitioners are playing significant role in helping the government toward the fight against the coronavirus and their protection should be prioritized, noting that they are also risking their life in the fight.

Receiving the donation held at the National Water Sanitation and Hygiene Commission headquarters in Sinkor, the President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Charles B. Coffey acknowledged that the Commission is the first entity that has donated hands washing buckets to the union to ensure that its members are safe from the deadly epidemic.

President Coffey stated that the fight against COVID-19 is a collective effort and the media has been in the forefront to ensure that Liberians observed the preventive measures through it platform since the outbreak of the deadly disease in the country.

He asked that the media practitioners need protection against COVID-19, although they are create awareness for the public to be protected and having hands washing buckets are strategy media centers will go a long way to enhance their works in the fight against coronavirus in the nation.

He noted that the dead rate on COVID-19 recorded has been the highest globally, so far and Liberia cases have been on the increased on the dailies basis, but some Liberians are still in the state denial which is very dangerous for the fight against the disease.

President Coffey stressed that media practitioners are strategizing massages that could help to enhance preventive measures to curtail the further spread of COVID-19 among the people.

He asserted that the items will be used for the intended purpose to ensure that the COVID-19 is eradicated from Liberia in order for the nation to move forward.
