Liberia’s First Lady, Clar Marie Weah is urging the religious community, especially church leaders, to continue to ensure strict adherence to the covid19 health protocols.

Mrs. Weah wants church leaders and worshipers to continue washing their hands, wearing masks and ensuring social distances during services at their respective worship centers.

The First Lady has also challenged church leaders to join efforts in ending the increased wave of sexual gender based violence across the country.

Mrs. Weah’s call was conveyed by her Chief of Staff, Gaelle Mediem on Sunday, July 19, 2020, during brief ceremonies marking the donation of at least 3,000 masks to three churches in Monrovia.

The churches include St. Kizito Catholic Church in Paynesville, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sinkor and Winners’ Chapel International in Congo Town.

Madam Mediem said the donation is part of the First Lady’s ongoing efforts in support of the fight to curb the spread of covid19 and end the pandemic.

“Mrs. Weah is extremely concerned about the increasing cases of covid19 in the country, and in order to help, it is the responsibility of all of us to help flatten the curve of the coronavirus pandemic,” said Madam Mediem.

Meanwhile, Madam Mediem also echoed the First Lady’s appeal to church leaders to help end the alarming rate of sexual gender based violence in the country.

“Please, this has to stop! Girls are raped every single day. They don’t deserve that treatment. Let us put our efforts together to fight corona and sexual gender based violence,” Madam Mediem asserted.

Speaking on behalf of their respective churches, Rev. Fr. Ambrose D. Kroma of the St. Kizito Parish, Rev. Kenety Gee and Pastor Clarence Fredrick’s thanked the First Lady for identifying with the church.

The religious prelates assured their commitments to adhering to the health protocols as prescribed by health authorities and sensitize their members on ending sexual gender based violence among others.
