President Weah to present Unification Town Land Deed

After 70-years of squatting, residents of Unification Town in Margibi County will officially get legitimacy over their land as the President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah presents deed of the land they are occupying on Friday, November 27, 2020.

Also, the Liberian Leader will dedicate the newly constructed footpath bridge connecting Dolo Town and Unification Town to the people of Margibi County.

Making the disclosure to newsmen in Kakata on Thursday November 26, 2020, the brain behind the legitimization of the Unification Town land and a 2020 Senatorial candidate; Ivar K. Jones said a dream come through has being realized and it is about to be effectuated to Friday several years of efforts.

According to him, President Weah while traveling to Grand Bassa County to grace Hon. Gbezongar Findley’s campaign program will make a stop in Unification Town and present the deed of more than 93 acres of land to residents of the area.

The Margibi District #2 Lawmaker indicated that before getting involve into the 2017 campaign activities he conducted a survey to know why Unification Town that serves as a seat of the Roberts International Airport was under developed, stating that the survey led him to knowing that the result of the under development of the Airport is as the result of people residing on squatter’s right.

Hon. Jones asserted that he propagated a campaign message that when he is elected he would insure that the squatter’s right is converted to legitimacy.

He explained that when he took over as a representative of district two he also launched a research to authenticate the ownership of the Unification Town Land adding that the research concluded that the land was a public land.

Additionally, Jones said when President Weah went to break ground for the expansion of the RIA to ELWA road he thought that was a perfect occasion to petition him in line with Article 17 of the Liberian Constitution and the President immediately responded assuring him (Rep. Jones) that his people will have a place of their own thereby asking him to work with Hon. Findley regarding the process.

Rep. Jones told Liberia Public Radio national correspondent in Margibi that when the process started he paid satellite and ground survey fees after which the land deed signed and probated was presented to them by the Liberia Land Authority, but have been waiting for the appropriate time to have it presented to the citizens of Unification Town.

“And we are in the know, and we have been informed that the President will be traveling to Grand Bassa on Tomorrow to go and brace the campaign program of Hon. Gbezongar Findley, so being informed we said that since Margibi will be used as a conduit to get to Grand Bassa we could seize the opportunity to allow the President to present the deed to the citizens officially.

“On tomorrow the president has agreed that he will be in Unification Town by 9:0’clock am to present a deed that contain ninety three point some more acres of land to over thousand plus residents of Unification Town” he narrated.

At the same time, the Lawmaker has revealed that he is being informed that the President will on tomorrow dedicate the footpath bridge which he contributed forty-five thousand United States dollars towards its construction. The footpath bridge connects Unification Town and Dolo Town in Lower Margibi County.
