A 46-year-old woman who has found herself on sand mining field in Kakata, Margibi County as the result of hardship is pleading with the government of Liberia, humanitarian organizations, Non-governmental Organizations and International Non-governmental Organizations as well as philanthropists to come to her aid.
Teta who recently underwent a caesarian surgery has been mining sand as the only means to carter to six children who has singled-handedly been taking care of.
on her regular sand mining activity told Liberia Public Radio in Kakata over on Friday December 11, 2020 that the lack of support has compelled her to get involve into sand mining in order to survive.
According to her, she needs a little over twenty thousand Liberian dollars to kick start a dry goods business to be able to take care of her children who have reportedly being abandoned by their father.
Madam Gibson disclosed that her fiancé left her with six children after she discovered him in an extra marital affair.
She stated that two of the six children are staying with her while the remaining four are with friends, but is finding it difficult to cater for the two due to hardship.
Teta furthered that her kids have not entered classroom because of financial constrain while friends sometimes help her with food before the kids have meal.
“Nobody to help, no man, my children not going to school; I don’t get money for me to send them to school” she indicated.
She asserted that sand mining is a difficult task for her especially being an operation patient, indicating that she feels pain whenever she is throwing shovel (digging).
The mother of six further revealed that she digs one pick-up load of sand daily and have it sold for a thousand Liberian dollars an amount according to her is not enough to feed the home and send the children to school.
Teta has at the same time expressed that she is worried as to how to pay her rent.
The lady noted that she pays one thousand Liberian dollars monthly as a rental fee for a single room that she and her kids occupy but the time paid for has elapsed
Though she said her landlord has not asked her for rent amidst the expiration of the time paid for, she is worried of being thrown out of the house if she fails to pay for additional months.
