Ouattara and Gbagbo to hold tete-a-tete after decade

The Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara is expected to have a tête-à-tête with former President Laurent Gbagbo on July 27, 2021 at the Palace of the Presidency of in Abidjan, government.

The pronouncement was made by government’s spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in the Ivorian capital city, Abidjan at the end of a Council of Ministers meeting.

“There was a contact, President Alassane Ouattara will receive Mr. Gbagbo Laurent on Tuesday July 27, 2021 at the Palace of the Presidency of the Republic,” said Amadou Coulibaly.

Since the 2010-disputed presidential election result, which brought some level of civil unrest in neighboring Cote d’Ivoire it appeared that national dialogue has been a nightmare for opposition, but Mr. Amadou Coulibaly said, “The dialogue has never been broken off; there is a government’s dialogue.”

The spokesperson further maintained that government’s dialogue “started with former Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, continued with former Prime Minister, Hamed Bakayoko and will continue with the current Prime Minister, Patrick Achi”.

This meeting is expected to be a first face-to-face meeting between the current and former presidents of Cote d’Ivoire for more than a decade.

 Côte d’Ivoire of former President, Laurent Gbagbo, acquitted on March 31, 2021 by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for crimes against humanity perpetrated during the post-election violence of 2010-2011.
