On Monday, July 27, 2026, the National Agency for Information Systems Security of Côte d’Ivoire (ANSSI-CI) officially launched the country’s National Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
This landmark digital platform positions Côte d’Ivoire at the forefront of the
global electronic certification hierarchy.
According to a statement from ANSSI-CI, this achievement establishes Côte d’Ivoire’s first sovereign national root of trust, which is vital for the country’s entire electronic certification ecosystem. This initiative is a significant milestone in enhancing the security of digital communications among government institutions, businesses, and citizens.
ANSSI-CI explained that the launch is the result of a multi-year effort to create a robust national digital trust framework. The agency’s recognition by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as the national registration authority for Object Identifiers (OIDs) provided the necessary technical and institutional foundation for the successful implementation of this infrastructure.
The National PKI will serve as the trust anchor for all Certification Authorities operating within Côte d’Ivoire. It ensures the authenticity, integrity, and non-repudiation of electronic communications and transactions—three essential pillars for the development of secure digital services.
With the deployment of this infrastructure, Côte d’Ivoire aims to significantly enhance the security of electronic transactions, whether they are administrative, commercial, or financial. The National PKI is also expected to accelerate the growth of Electronic Trust Service Providers (ETSPs) and support the nationwide rollout of electronic signatures and a national digital identity system.
ANSSI-CI further emphasized that this infrastructure will ensure that digital services comply with the country’s existing legal and regulatory framework, which grants electronic signatures full legal validity when they meet established security and reliability requirements.
The agency noted that the launch is part of a broader national digital transformation agenda. It is one of the flagship projects under the 2026–2028 Roadmap of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalization (MTNIT) and contributes directly to the implementation of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Cybersecurity Strategy.
Through this initiative, ANSSI-CI reaffirms its commitment, alongside its institutional partners, to building a safer and more resilient cyber environment based on sustainable digital trust. As the national authority responsible for cybersecurity and digital trust, ANSSI-CI is recognized by both the ITU and ISO as the national registration authority for Object Identifiers (OIDs).
The agency now manages Côte d’Ivoire’s sovereign national root of trust, providing the foundation for the country’s entire electronic certification ecosystem and reinforcing its position as a regional leader in secure digital transformation.
