The Regional Director for West and Central Africa Engender Health, a Non-Governmental Organization office in Cote d’Ivoire, Mr. Mohamed Ly says  Sexual Gender-Based Violence in African Countries remains alarming.

This, he said can be eradicated with frantic efforts .

Speaking to the Liberia Public Radio on Friday in Abidjan, Mr. Mohamed Ly told our correspondent that his organization is expected to host a major workshop on Monday, May 16, 2022, in Abidjan that will lead to the launching of a new project called “Multi-sectorial initiative for prevention and intervention in the field survivor-centered (SGBV) in French-speaking West Africa.”
“We are expecting delegates from Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, and other countries and representatives from national Governments, Embassies, Stakeholders, Youth groups, etc…

“This activity aims to present the initiative and mobilize the press and all stakeholders involved in the promotion of women’s rights, the fight against Gender-Based Violence in Cote d’Ivoire.”

“This will also enable them to unify their actions for the elimination of Gender-Based Violence in Cote d’Ivoire.”

“Indeed, this sub-regional initiative is a program that will revolve around the mechanisms and actions that aim to promote the empowerment of survivors of Gender-Based Violence, improve the conditions for their care and their social-economic reintegration.”

He also lauded the government of Cote d’Ivoire for what he termed as a good collaboration between both parties (Engender Health and the Government of Cote d’Ivoire) by enhancing the activities of Engender Health over the past years.

“Let me, first of all, express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you and the entire management of the Liberia Public Radio for the opportunity given to me to speak on issues of importance.”

Engender Health has been working in Côte d’Ivoire for more than ten (10) years with the mission and objective to support the Ministry of Health and local organizations that work to improve the delivery of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in the country.

The Non-Governmental Organization works to increase access to the full range of available contraceptive methods (particularly long-acting reversible contraceptives and permanent methods) by increasing stakeholders’ skills in service delivery, advocacy, communications, and financial management.

Engender Health also advocates for improved access to comprehensive abortion care with an emphasis on amplifying the voices of women and youth as well as supporting effective national and regional coordination efforts.
