WONGOSOL builds capacity of women to understand conventions relating their rights protection

A training  intended to empower women on the various international conventions and protocols that Liberian Government has signed  to protect and promote  women issues in  the country has ended  in Monrovia.

The Women Non-Governmental Organizations Secretariat of Liberia(WONGOSOL) is leading the training for 50 civil society organizations especially women groups in Liberia.

 According to the Executive Director of WONGOSOL, Esther Davis Yango, the lack of empowerment of Liberian women over the years is undermining their potential in political, economic and education arena in the society.

She stressed that the two-day training will expose them to understand the purpose to promote and advance the rights of women and girls issues through advocacy and policy efforts to enhance sexual reproductive health rights, gender based  violence, women political participation and women economic empowerment in Liberia.

She explained that the passage of the new Elections Law is critical for huge women participation in the pending presidential and representatives elections, noting that political parties will be requested to made avaliable certain  percentage for women on their parties tickets.

Madam Yango asserted that these international  conventions  should implemented to help transform the plight of Liberian women.

According to her, Liberian women should actively get involve in political  activities in the country, adding that women should be at the decision making level rather than being at the back .

She narrated that Liberian women  should be encouraged to participate in the democratic process through the elected positions.

Madam Yango emphasized that women leadership are sensitive to the plight of the ordinary citizens .

The training which is  held under the theme “increasing women CSO on national and international instrument to advance  and promote the rights of women and girls to strengthen national level policy engagement and the women movement in Liberia
