Gbarnga, Bong County – More than 400 officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) have successfully completed a two-week intensive Specialized In-Service Training Program designed to strengthen their capacity to address emerging national security challenges while upholding professionalism, discipline, and excellence.
Delivering the keynote address at the graduation ceremony held at the Gbarnga Regional Justice and Security Hub, Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye hailed the graduates as “guardians of Liberia’s sovereignty, protectors of peace, and facilitators of lawful migration.” He emphasized that immigration officers are custodians of national security, ambassadors of peace, and vital contributors to Liberia’s economic growth and stability.
“You now carry the responsibility to uphold fairness, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of your duties,” Senator Moye told the graduates, underscoring their role in preventing human trafficking, combating transnational crime, and monitoring Liberia’s borders against illegal infiltration.
Commissioner General Col. Elijah Rufus congratulated the officers, describing the training as a milestone in transforming the LIS into a disciplined, professional, and technology-driven institution.
He noted that the program was fully funded by the Government of Liberia, reflecting its commitment to strengthening border security and migration management. Rufus also expressed gratitude to ECOWAS, the African Union, UNDP, and other international partners for their continued support.
Deputy Commissioner for Administration Nelsco Wolo urged the graduates to apply their newly acquired skills with diligence and integrity, while the class representative Abraham Sherman pledged on behalf of the 8th Graduating Class to uphold the Constitution, safeguard Liberia’s borders, and serve with discipline and professionalism.
The graduation marks another step in the Liberia Immigration Service’s broader efforts to enhance institutional capacity and border management as part of the Government of Liberia’s national security reform agenda.
