Dede D. Mechlain has resigned as Chairperson of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in Grand Gedeh County and withdrawn his membership from the party.
In his resignation letter addressed to CDC National Chairman Janga Augustus Kowo, Mechlain stated that his decision takes immediate effect.
He cited the CDC’s failure to fulfill several development promises made to Grand Gedeh County during former President George Weah’s visit in 2021. These promises included projects related to sports, education, markets, and public infrastructure.
Mechlain also alleged that his leadership was repeatedly undermined during his tenure, mentioning the appointment of chapter committee members without his consent and what he referred to as persistent disrespect from some former CDC government officials.
The former county chairperson expressed his intention to focus on his family and prepare for a new political journey, emphasizing that the development of Grand Gedeh should come first. He also praised the Boakai-Koung administration for its achievements in the county, including road rehabilitation, electricity expansion, support for education, and other public sector improvements.
Despite his departure, Mechlain wished the CDC success in its bid to return to power in the 2029 elections.
This resignation marks the fourth time a high-ranking official from the CDC’s Grand Gedeh chapter has left the party.
The former ruling party has not yet officially commented on the resignation of its Grand Gedeh Chairman.
