Two alleged Elephant killers arrested In Lofa County

Police in Lofa County are investigating two persons for allegedly killing two forest elephants, which are considered protected species by law.

Some residents gunned down the elephants recently in the Wologizi Forest Park in Zeyeama Clan, Zorzor District, located on the border with neighboring Guinea.

According to Mr. John Flomo, Head of the Wologizi Forest Park, one of the prime suspects, Bobby Forkpa, was arrested, while another suspect Koikoi Willie  has been later arrested in neighboring Guinea by Guinean authorities and handed over to Police in Lofa County.

Flomo disclosed that another suspect identified as Peter Freeman is currently on the run.

Mr. Flomo also disclosed that investigation into the killing of the two elephants is ongoing to ensure that those responsible do not go unpunished.

Meanwhile, Mr. Flomo is urging residents of Lofa County to protect and preserve wildlife in the county.

The wildlife law of Liberia prohibits the wanton hunting and killing of endanger animals including elephant.

The killing of the two elephants comes at the time the entire world has been pushing for the protection of biodiversity.
