The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Health, has initiated the construction of a modern headquarters for the Bong County Health Team in Melekie Town, Jorquelleh District Three, Bong County.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, July 31, 2026, and was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health, county authorities, health workers, and local residents.
Dr. Daanue Paye Zwuogbae, the Bong County Health Officer, provided an overview of the project, stating that the new state-of-the-art facility will allow the County Health Team to relocate from its current offices at the Phebe Compound to a larger and more suitable headquarters that can accommodate all staff members.
Dr. Zwuogbae emphasized that the existing office space has become insufficient to meet the growing demands of the County Health Team, making the construction of a permanent headquarters both necessary and timely. He described the project as a significant investment in the future of healthcare administration in Bong County, highlighting that the new building will serve as the permanent home for the County Health Team.
He expressed gratitude to Minister of Health Dr. Louise M. Kpoto for her leadership and steadfast support in bringing the project to fruition. Additionally, Dr. Zwuogbae acknowledged the contributions of former Bong County Health Officers, particularly Dr. Gorbee Gabriel Logan, who secured the land for the project during his tenure, and Dr. Jefferson Sibley, who led the re-survey process to prepare the property for construction.
Administrative Officer Sam Elliot, speaking on behalf of the Bong County Administration, praised the Ministry of Health for undertaking what he described as a landmark development for the county’s health sector.
He assured the Ministry of the county administration’s full support during the construction process and urged the contractor to execute the project with professionalism, transparency, and integrity.
Madam Morris, the Deputy Minister for Administration representing the Ministry of Health, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project. She disclosed that the construction will cost slightly more than US$700,000, with the entire project financed by the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health.
Madam Morris emphasized that this investment reflects the government’s dedication to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure and providing a better working environment for health professionals.
The contract for the project has been awarded to Eco Lux Construction and Homes Remodeling Inc., which will oversee the construction of the new headquarters.
