Sporting riot kills one in Nimba County District number 7

According to eyewitnesses, the riot happened during a soccer match between Gbao-Gwehlay Town and Fehnplay old Town, electoral Nimba District #7.

 

Eyewitnesses’ account told Ok FM  that during the soccer match, Gbao-Gwehley Town FC scored a goal that was resisted by Fehnplay All Star citizens, which brought about the riot between the two teams and their supporters.

The football tournament was reportedly organized by Fehnplay All Star citizens in Gbao Clan, District number 7 with the intent of raising funds to undertake development.

The sitution got intense, when a 22 year old man along with his friend on their way to Gbao-Gwehlay  Town were allegedly attacked by three men believed to be citizens of Fehnplay New Town.

Citizens of Gbao-Gwehlay Town then angrily moved into Fehnplay New Town and destroyed seven houses and wounded five persons.

The tension reportedly led to the drowning of a 22 year-old man.

Prince Monbiah Beah who got drown in a creek is yet to be discovered while 46 year-old Matthew Dahn who allegedly took arm for those aggrieved citizens from Gbao-Gwehlay Town was wounded. 22year old  Beah was a spectator who had gone to watch the game.

                                                

Sources in Bahn city Nimba County said Police have arrested several persons while many other residents of both towns have fled the towns for fear of their lives.
