The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) will validate its five-year Strategic Plan from July 15 to 17, 2026. This plan aims to enhance the Commission’s response to the refugee situation in Liberia, including issues related to migration governance, statelessness, and deportation.

The three-day validation workshop will be held in Ganta, Nimba County. It will gather representatives from various Government of Liberia institutions, development partners, humanitarian organizations, civil society groups, and other key stakeholders to review and endorse the strategic plan.

Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, Executive Director of LRRRC, stated that the strategic plan will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for the Commission’s work over the next five years. The document identifies key priorities, such as improving protection services for refugees and asylum seekers, promoting effective migration governance, addressing statelessness, and finding durable solutions for displaced populations.

Additionally, the strategic plan seeks to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance emergency preparedness and response, and foster partnerships with national and international stakeholders.

LRRRC emphasizes that the validation process aims to ensure the strategic plan incorporates the contributions and recommendations of stakeholders while aligning with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and Liberia’s international commitments regarding refugee protection and humanitarian response.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the strategic objectives, anticipated outcomes, implementation framework, and monitoring mechanisms.

The Commission believes that this strategic plan will improve service delivery, strengthen coordination among humanitarian actors, and enhance Liberia’s ability to effectively respond to the challenges of refugees and displacement in the coming years.

The validation event from July 15 to 17 is sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and represents a significant milestone in LRRRC’s efforts to build a more resilient, responsive, and accountable institution dedicated to protecting refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons, migrants, returnees, and other individuals in need throughout the country.
