Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – July 30, 2026 — Côte d’Ivoire’s main opposition party, the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire–African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA), has called on its members to remain calm and united after a court postponed its ruling in a case involving the party and its president, Cheick Tidjane Thiam.
In a statement issued Thursday following the hearing, the PDCI-RDA acknowledged the delay and reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and judicial independence.
The party stressed that justice must proceed without interference, underscoring that democracy depends on political parties operating freely and members retaining the right to choose their leaders.
The party urged supporters to avoid rumors and speculation, warning against attempts to sow division. It encouraged members to remain patient while staying mobilized and engaged nationwide.
According to the statement, all party structures will continue to function under Thiam’s leadership, in line with internal statutes. The PDCI-RDA expressed confidence in the judiciary, appealing to judges to act with integrity and independence.
It reiterated a principle it described as fundamental: “Judges determine legality; party members choose their leaders.”
The declaration, signed in Abidjan by Executive Secretary-General Yapo Yapo Calice, concluded that the party remains calm, united, and fully mobilized behind its elected president.
The court has not yet announced a new date for its decision.
