NDMA, Partner   assist thousands of flood  victims across Liberia

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and its partner the International Rescue Committee (IRC), has extended its humanitarian assistance to support people affected by severe flooding across Liberia during the raining season in July 2022.

The announcements in the extension of its relief and respond program came on Saturday, December 2, 2022, when both NDMA and IRC reached out to Flood victims in the New Matadi and Fanti Town Communities with the distribution of food and non- food items to hundreds affected by the flooding in the swamp area.

  Augustine F. Tamba The Deputy Executive Director for operations at the Disaster Management Agency visited several communities including the New Matadi, Plumkor, Logan Town and Duala Communities in and around Monrovia, as well as the Norlvin town, Todee, District, Montserrado County, and Fahn Town, Margibi County to assess the  impact of these floods.

Tamba said apart from the agency distributions of assorted food and non-food items in various floods surroundings in and out of Montserrado and nearby counties of Bomi and Grand Cape Mount through its  Relief and Response program, the organization and partner; the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has provided Cash Transfer by the means of Mobile money to the affected communities.

He said a Sum of US$164,050,000 has been given to required household beneficiaries of the floods across the country when it’s needed.

Tamba, infutherance said during the assessment tour of affected flood communities and locations across Liberia, the NDMA has identified that 93, 000 were suffering from floods across the Country, therefore initially after their assessment to aid the flood victims, the project sort to address 972 household heads, which is summed up to nearly, 4,000 Liberians, he said.

48 flood communities were identified in Montserrado County, six Communities identified in Margibi County, and three communities identified in Grand Cape Mount Counties, he said.

despite identifying that 93, 000 Liberians were suffering from Floods across the country the disaster agency said  it was important to seek  assistance  from its partner, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) who responded by providing the  agency with additional 500 household heads, adding to the initial 972 household heads identify, bringing to the total number of 1,503 household heads, benefitting from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) relief and respond project, across Liberia.

For his part, Francis Passawe – Operational Coordinator of the IRC, said the International Rescue Committee IRC, with over 30 years of humanitarian services to Liberians, the entity is excited to collaborate with the National Disaster Management Agency NDMA, to Burgess Government efforts to assist the needed.

Passawe, announced that the International Rescue Committee IRC, through the NDMA, will continue providing additional humanitarian assistance to support the people affected by severe flooding across Liberia.
