Health Ministry brainstorms on one Health program in Bomi

The Ministry of health in collaboration with the National Public Health Institute and partners on Monday launches the one health program in Tubmanburg Bomi County.

Speaking to reporters Dr. Ralph Jayton, Deputy Director of infectious Disease and epidemiology at the NPHIL said the purpose of the workshop is to establish the one Health program in the Country.

Dr. Jayton said the one Health program is a platform that brings together Animal Health, Human Health and the environment to help prevent the spread of diseases from animals to human.

According to him the one Health program has been established at the National level and the local level has been forgotten, but through the consultation of other organizations they have come up to go across the country to establish the one Health program.

Dr. Jayton further stated that the workshop brings together members of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) the FDA among others, the workshop which will last for three days. 

Meanwhile Dr. Jayton said the one Health program establishment has been divided into region all over the Country and for the western Region which comprises of Bomi, Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties.     

He disclosed that the program is a multi-sectorial organization coming together with efforts to help combat diseases that will affect people in the rural or nation level in the Country.

Dr. Jayton stated that his expectation is to see the stake holders in the various Counties are involve and participate in the one Health awareness and put health first.
