Three Trade Unions have launched a robust Covid-19 response in support of the Government fight against the virus.

The three Organizations include United Workers Union of Liberia, Dock Workers Union and the Seafarer Workers Union.

The launched of the project coincided with the distribution of masks, buckets and hand sanitizers. The project will last for three months and it would also involve awareness raising.

The three-month project was officially launched by the Incident Management System(IMS) on behalf of the Health Ministry.

The IMS Covid-19 Coordination Pillar Lead Abraham Nyensweh said the initiative by the three Trade Unions is in support of the IMS strategy which has resulted into drastic decline into Covid-19 cases in Liberia.

Mr. Nyensweh urged them to encourage their colleagues to continue to comply with the health protocols instituted by Health Authorities.

“Adhering to the health protocol like keeping your social distancing, wearing of mask, and washing of hands are key to combating Covid-19”, he said.

“Owing to the appeal made by you people, the incident management system will make sure to open of the Covid-19 Centers at the National Port Authority for workers here to take advantage of the testing process”.

Giving the over view of the project, the Training Director of the United Workers Union of Liberia, Mr. Vacus Kun said the project is intended to make seafarers and transport workers adhere to the existing health protocols and take the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine.

“We will use this time to reach to all workers to encourage them to follow the health protocols and also take the vaccine”,Mr. Kun said.

“We all know that workers constantly interact with people on a daily basic so it is important for the them to be vaccinate because they don’t know the status of those they interact with daily”, He argued.

The Chairman of the National Coordinating Committee of the International Transport Federation-Liberia Chapter, Dave Sneh said the committee will ensure that the campaign to combat the Corona Virus in the Country reach the door steps of all seafarers and transport workers.

Mr. Sneh  assured that they would do everything in their power to work along with Health Authorities to  ensure that seafarers and transport workers take Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Buckets and sanitizers for COVID-19 awareness were also distributed at the launch

“We want for key focus to be placed on the National Port Authority because there are lots of international people coming at the Port from other Countries whose status are not known” he said.

In this campaign we will accept positive suggestions from other partners to help us and the health people beat this virus out of our Country.

The three Month project is funded by the International Transport Federation(ITF).
